An energetic and unflappable award-winning director, Hanelle Culpepper’s television credits range from superhero action adventures to thrillers, genre films to character-driven dramas. 

Chosen to direct the pilot for Star Trek: Picard, Hanelle is the first woman to launch a new Star Trek series in the franchise’s 53-year history. Her work on Picard, earned her a NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. 

She is currently executive producing and directing the pilot of The CW Kung Fu reboot and is also directing Big Beach’s autobiographical feature 1000 Miles. She was selected for the inaugural class of Women In Film’s ReFrame Rise Directors cohort and she earned Variety’s 2019 Inclusion Impact honor. 

Her TV credits further include Parenthood, Counterpart, Mayans M.C., Grimm, American Crime, The Flash, Gotham, S.W.A.T., Star Trek: Discovery, and NOS4A2. In 2015, Hanelle received her first NAACP Image Award nomination for directing for Criminal Minds.

Hanelle proudly serves as an alternate on the DGA’s National Board and as co-chair of the DGA’s Women’s Steering Committee.
