The Iris Awards

January 15th, 2022

Dear registrants,

I hope you are well and keeping safe.

As you are aware, NATPE has made the difficult decision to cancel the NATPE MIAMI 2022 MARKET AND CONFERENCE, and the IRIS Awards 2022 luncheon, due to the outbreak and rapid spread of the Omicron COVID variant. Your safety and health are our main concern.

As announced on January 9th, 2022, NATPE is in the process of developing a plan to create both virtual and in-person events (when appropriate) throughout the year. And that includes rescheduling the 2022 IRIS Awards.

In the spirit of the awards and to celebrate the honorees’ contributions to the industry, we have made the decision to postpone the award ceremony to an in-person event this spring in a different city, if it is safe to do so then, rather than to hold the ceremony virtually.

We will be announcing a new date and location shortly. Please make sure to check our website at www.natpe.com for updates or reach out at info@natpe.org. I hope you will join us.

Stay safe!

Thank you.

JP Bommel
President and CEO

NATPE MIAMI 2022 CANCELS IN-PERSON CONFERENCE TO PROTECT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF ALL ATTENDEES

New Programs, Events, and Activities in Development to Bring Professional and Financial Opportunities to NATPE Membership in 2022

LOS ANGELES, January 9, 2022 – After serious consideration of the health and safety of all attendees, as well as the quality of the event experience for its membership and other constituents, NATPE Miami 2022 has canceled the in-person Conference planned from January 18-20 this month in Miami, Florida with new dates and locations under consideration for the next NATPE Conference and Marketplace. The decision was announced today by JP Bommel, President and CEO of the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), the premier global business association for content producers, distributors, streamers and buyers across all platforms.

NATPE is in the process of developing a plan to create both virtual and in-person events (when appropriate) throughout the year with either no fees or limited ones in appreciation for the support NATPE has received from many people around the world.

JP Bommel, President and CEO, NATPE remarked, “Although this decision from a financial point of view will cost the organization a great deal of money, that was secondary to our primary concern, which is to put the welfare of our members first. We put a great deal of safety protocols in place, but it is just not enough given the intensity of this virus which is spreading at an enormous rate all over the world. We look forward to producing a strong conference at the right time and under the best circumstances, and to provide all our attendees with the greatest value we can offer.”

NATPE MIAMI 2022 UPDATES NATPE-SAFE PROTOCOLS TO INCLUDE ON-SITE TESTING

NATPE-Safe Protocols to be in Effect, Including Proof of Vaccination and Temperature Checks Throughout the Event

LOS ANGELES, December 23, 2021 – The National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), the premier global business association for content producers, distributors, streamers and buyers across all platforms, has updated its health and safety protocols.  NATPE Safe, which now includes on-site testing in addition to the already required proof of vaccination, will be in effect during NATPE Miami 2022. From January 18-20, the Fontainebleau Resort in Miami will be home for the in-person return of the leading one-stop shop for commerce around global content.

With the health and safety of exhibitors, buyers, sponsors, honorees, partners and all attendees as top priority, NATPE will be following the highest standards and COVID-related protocols. Continually refined with guidance from the CDC, WHO and local authorities, and in effect for the entirety of the event, this will include, among other things: mandatory proof of vaccination for all attendees, outdoor tents for sessions and meetings, and designated NATPE Safe zones fully controlled by the event production team.

In regards to testing, NATPE will make two options available to conference and marketplace attendees:

Optional Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Testing:

In accordance with NATPE’s commitment to create the highest possible standards of health and well-being for its honorees and guests, NATPE will now offer optional Rapid Antigen COVID-19 Testing for all attendees on the main dates of the event.

Guests that take advantage of the daily testing will receive identification (i.e. wrist badge) of their negative COVID test. Individual Exhibitors and Sponsors may choose to require testing in order to meet with their staff. Please check with Organizations you plan to take appointments with to confirm their testing policies.

Testing will be available on a limited basis. To take advantage of this service, you must first make an appointment and sign a waiver. More information on how to make an appointment will be available in the near future.

Departure Rapid PCR COVID-19 Testing:

NATPE will provide a PCR COVID-19 Test for international attendees that require a negative PCR COVID test 72 hours or less before entering back into an individual’s country of origin. This testing is being offered to simplify and expedite the process of getting tested in advance of a return trip home from NATPE Miami. A fee of $150,00 is required per test.

Please note: To ensure that everybody who must have a PCR test is able to get one, we ask that delegates only use this service if they require a PCR test to travel internationally.

Important: NATPE Safe Protocols to be Active During the Event

NATPE Safe Protocols are to ensure everyone’s safety within areas that require a NATPE badge. Non-NATPE areas, including elevators and common areas, are subject to local regulations, while the exhibition suites are subject to the suite holder and local regulations.  NATPE Safe protocols include:

  • Proof of vaccination will be required to receive a badge and attend NATPE Miami.
  • NATPE has created a daily health survey which will be filled out by attendees on everyone’s mobile phones.
  • Complimentary face masks will be available on-site.
  • NATPE Safe Stations will be set up throughout the event, which includes: touch-free sanitizer, disposable masks and other safety items.
  • Temperature checks will be taken before entering certain parts of the NATPE event (i.e. the mainstage conference session or the exhibition floor).
  • The NATPE Networking Tent will provide an outdoor option for networking. Some conference sessions will also take place outside at the tent.
  • Masks will be mandatory for all NATPE staff, service providers and vendors, and masks are highly recommended for all attendees.
  • NATPE will increase the disinfection of the meeting areas.
  • Cleaning will be reinforced in all exhibition spaces.
  • High-contact areas will be frequently disinfected.
  • NATPE has created privatized areas for badge holders only to meet throughout the hotel property.

As Chairman and CEO, he successfully oversaw a series of acquisitions and negotiated multiple rounds of funding for Batanga Media, making it one of the largest independent digital media and content companies for Hispanic consumers in the U.S., Latin America, and Brazil. In 2017, Urbina led the strategic corporate and consumer rebrand of Batanga Media to VIX and closed a strategic investment with Discovery Communications. Rafael forged VIX’s entry into the OTT market in 2019 by securing the acquisition of Pongalo, a Spanish-language streaming service, giving VIX control of one of the largest IP libraries of Latino-focused films and TV shows in the world.

Tenderfoot TV
Donald Albright
Executive Producer & Co-Founder
Tenderfoot TV

California native Donald Albright is an entrepreneur, producer, and co-founder of Atlanta-based content creation company, Tenderfoot TV.

Albright has spent the last 20 years working on a variety of music and entertainment projects with notable artists including Jay-Z, OutKast, Usher, DJ Khaled, and many more. In 2016, Albright joined friend and music video director Payne Lindsey to launch Tenderfoot TV, a content creation company that works with fellow creators to bring stories to life through an array of entertainment media — including podcasts, live shows, television, film, and other digital platforms.

Since its launch, Tenderfoot TV has released multiple successful podcast franchises including “Up and Vanished,” “Monster,” “Radio Rental,” and “To Live and Die in LA,” amassing over 600 million downloads in total in just four years. Through Tenderfoot TV, Albright has garnered partnerships with media companies including iHeartRadio, NBCUniversal, HBO, Audible, Netflix, Cadence13, and Issa Rae’s label Raedio, continuously collaborating on new podcasts.

As executive producer on all of Tenderfoot TV’s podcasts, Albright has made it a priority to ensure that Tenderfoot’s projects leave a lasting footprint beyond entertainment. An integral aspect of the company’s projects is that their true crime podcasts are not only entertaining, but also give authorities tools to uncover new leads and crack these cases that have gone under the radar for too long. “Up and Vanished” helped crack the case of missing schoolteacher and beauty queen Tara Grinstead. It was followed by “Atlanta Monster,” which helped renew interest in the 29 cases of Atlanta’s missing and murdered children, known as the Atlanta Child Murders. The city of Atlanta announced in March 2019 that after 40 years it would be re-examining evidence in these cases. Tenderfoot TV’s popular podcast “To Live and Die in LA,” has given authorities evidence that there was more than one person involved in the death of aspiring Hollywood actress Adea Shabani, and was named Associated Press’s Top Podcast of 2019.

Albright scaled “Atlanta Monster” into the “Monster” franchise, launching other investigative hits throughout 2019-2020 including “Monster: The Zodiac Killer” and “Monster: DC Sniper.” He’s also behind the no. 1 true crime hit “Culpable,” and worked to put out season two of Payne Lindsey’s No. 1 horror anthology podcast, “Radio Rental.” Albright serves as executive producer on Tenderfoot TV’s “Up and Vanished” TV docu-series for Oxygen Networks that aired in 2020, and has a variety of television and film projects in development.

Most recently, in 2020, through a deal brokered by Albright, Tenderfoot partnered with Issa Rae’s label Raedio and HBO, to create a one-episode special podcast “Looking for LaToya,” based on Insecure’s show within a show of the same name. Tenderfoot also released “Somebody,” in partnership with the Invisible Institute, The Intercept, Topic Studios, and iHeartRadio, which investigates the death of a young black man in Chicago.

Continuing partnerships with iHeart and Cadence, Tenderfoot announced new podcast slates for 2020-2021 in The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline respectively.

Dubbed the “Podcast Kingmaker” by Atlanta Magazine, Albright’s success in the podcast industry has been widely acclaimed. Albright serves as Chairperson for The Podcast Academy and in 2020 he won both an Icon Award and the 2020 Audible Audio Pioneer Award. Fast Company also recognized Tenderfoot as a company that “knows how to keep listeners engaged,” and Albright plans to continue that mentality of entertainment with a purpose as he leads other forthcoming Tenderfoot projects, including podcasts and television series in development for the upcoming year.
