Update or add to your skills and teaching expertise by spending up to four weeks in a television station, production company, advertising agency or other media firm.

Since 1980, the NATPE Foundation has placed more than 150 college professors in summer “internships” where faculty make new professional contacts and renew or add to their professional skills. Faculty awardees receive $500 per week during their funded experience.

Development Grant recipients are invited to attend the annual NATPE Market and Conference and receive a $500 travel grant.  NATPE provides registration, housing and covers most meals.

Full-time teaching faculty in media academic programs at two- and four-year colleges and universities are eligible. Recipients are responsible for locating an appropriate organization for a summer development experience. The NATPE Foundation will work with all grant recipients to assist in placement. Faculty must be available for an interview with the cooperating company. Minimum placement is two weeks.

Upon completion of the “internship,” recipients submit a detailed description and evaluation of the experience. Grant recipients are responsible for their transportation, accommodations and meals during the grant period.  A $500 per week stipend will be paid to grant recipients to defray costs. The stipend is paid after the FDG experience has been completed and the grant report has been submitted. Grant reports are due within 45 days of completion of the grant experience.

Faculty members are encouraged to use the FDG funds as matching money to development grants that may be available from their academic program or institution. NATPE faculty programs involve competitive selection by a board of reviewers consisting of academic and industry representatives.
