John Griffiths

John Griffiths, Us Weekly‘s Television Critic from 2003 to 2017, today works as an advocate for inclusion and diversity in media and beyond. He is the Executive Director and founder of GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and its Dorian Awards for all of film and TV, mainstream to LGBTQIA+. He also oversees Critics Groups for Equality in Media (CGEM), an alliance of five under-represented entertainment journalists organizations including the African American Critics Association, Latino Entertainment Journalists Association, Asian American Journalism Association’s Features Forum and the Online Association of Female Film Critics. In addition, he participates on the Advisory Committee of Time’s Up’s CRITICAL initiative, which presses to increase “D&I” in entertainment journalism. 

John’s previous “credits” include Special Correspondent for People magazine, Senior Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Advocate, Contributing Editor for Women’s Health, and many magazine cover profiles on celebrities such as Sandra Bullock, Ellen DeGeneres, Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Garner and Courteney Cox. For many years, he participated on the review committee for the Entertainment Industries Council’s Prism Awards for accuracy in health and addiction issues, and was an inaugural member of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention’s Public Awareness Task Force. In the mid 2000s, he also hosted and produced a live weekly digital radio show on the intersection of entertainment, mental health and recovery, a program he hopes to reboot some day soon.
