Fırat Gülgen founded Calinos Entertainment, in 1997, in Los Angeles. Until 2001, he sold telenovela to the Turkic Republics. He then moved the headquarters of Calinos Entertainment to Turkey and began the distributors of Turkish dramas abroad. Calinos Entertainment became the first company to distribute Turkish content around the world. In 2003, Firat Gulgen made an output deal with Paramount and Universal studios, to exclusively distribute their content in Turkey for more than 8 years.
In 2008, Firat Gulgen started a partnership with TTNET- Turkey’s main telecommunications operator where Calinos set up Turkey’s first IPTV – TIVIBU – and WEB TV platforms and provided full content consultancy management. Calinos gained experience in the broadcasting industry and set up the first in-house channels for TIVIBU called FILMTIVI which delivered more than 350 new titles per year.
During that time, Firat Gulgen set up Calinos Films, which became one of the fastest growing film distribution companies in Turkey with over 100 theatrical releases in 5 years and a fast growing library of more than 300 films.
Firat Gulgen expanded his business into mining, dairy farming and renewable energy sectors. Calinos Holding continues to grow with more than 20 domestic and foreign companies in its organization.
