Iron Mountain Entertainment Services

Appointed in 2019, Lance Podell is the senior vice president and general manager of Iron Mountain Entertainment Services (IMES). Podell oversees the entertainment and media division, ensuring that IMES continues to maintain its global leadership status in media preservation and archive management.

Podell worked in entertainment on content and online platform development. For six years, he was the director, global head of YouTube Spaces (YouTube Studios). A division of Google he created and built, YouTube Spaces advanced the YouTube platform by engaging with creators and content partners to stimulate innovation and collaboration, improve channel development, and broadcast success for other creators to emulate. Podell was responsible for putting YouTube in the talent “game” — creating ten spaces around the world where creators, major media companies (Warner Brothers, NBC, Vice, BuzzFeed, among others) and independent and label artists could create content and innovate in storytelling, format, and production, all while building both global and local YouTube communities. Podell also strengthened YouTube communities in emerging markets by developing Pop Up Spaces.

Podell’s prior company, Next New Networks was acquired by YouTube in March, 2011. Podell was the Chairman and CEO of Next New Networks, a venture-backed online video company that distributed some of the most popular TV-like programming across the Web, especially on YouTube. Next New Networks was the first multi-channel network (MCN) on the Web and was responsible for advancing well over 150 YouTube channels from thousands of views per episode to millions of views per episode.

Podell holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an A.B. from Lafayette College. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and three children. He sits on the board of advisors for Publishers Clearing House and mentors Harvard Business School alumni in the development of entrepreneurial efforts (start-ups).
