|Bio||Andy Kaplan is President of Sony Pictures Television Networks. Based in Culver City, California, Kaplan leads Sony’s global television networks and related investments, with over 180 channel feeds reaching nearly two billion subscribers.
Under Kaplan’s leadership, the SPT Networks portfolio has grown to include some of the most popular linear and digital media brands around the world, including Crackle, GSN, AXN, ANIMAX and Sony Channel.
Kaplan continues to lead the success of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), which for over twenty years has operated Sony Entertainment Television along with several of the most popular channels in India. Recent additions to SPNI’s portfolio include the joint-venture Sony ESPN and Sony BBC Earth channels, as well as the recent $385M acquisition of TEN Sports, India’s most popular sports networks.
Other recent acquisitions and investments under Kaplan’s leadership include the acquisition of anime company Funimation; a new joint venture between Sony’s Animax and Mitsui’s Kids Station, the two leading Anime cable channels in Japan; and the acquisition of digital cross-network ad sales company IMS/Httpool, amongst others.
Recent original programming under Kaplan includes global original productions like the thriller series Absentia, locally-produced versions of Shark Tank in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, The Amazing Race Asia, and Asia’s Got Talent; and Crackle Originals Snatch, StartUp, and The Oath.
Kaplan is Chairman of the Board of Directors of NATPE, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zimmer Children's Museum, and Chairman of the Board of Governors for the USC Annenberg School's Center for the Digital Future, as well as a member of the Board of Directors for both the International Academy of Television, Arts & Sciences and the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
