|Bio||John Ford is General Manager, NPACT, a 101-member trade association with offices in Washington, DC, New York and Los Angeles. NPACT is the industry’s premier unit for nonfiction producers and boasts members who supply the vast majority of nonfiction content in the US. He also is Head of Programming for Justice Network, a digital multi-cast channel offering crime and justice programming to 65 million broadcast homes nationwide.
Ford’s career spans forty years in media, including senior executive positions at Discovery Communications, National Geographic Channel and in public television. At Discovery from 2007-09, Ford was responsible for all programming, marketing, and related functions.” He also served as the President and General Manager of Discovery Times Channel and Military Channel, and began the process of converting Discovery Times to Investigation Discovery (I.D.). Prior to returning to Discovery, Ford was the Executive Vice President, Programming at National Geographic Channel, where he led a complete programming and ratings turnaround from 2003-2007 and was named a CableFax programmer of the year.
From 1989-2003, Ford served in senior executive positions at Discovery Networks, US, including President of New Media, president of Content for Discovery Networks, and president of Discovery Health Channel and Discoveryhealth.com.
For eight years, Ford led Discovery’s TLC as its SVP, Programming and EVP and General Manager, serving there until 1999. Under his guidance TLC, acquired by Discovery in 1991, was one of the most dramatic cable growth stories of the 1990’s.
Under his tenure Ford’s channels earned numerous primetime and news and documentary EMMYs and two Peabody Awards. CableFax has called him a “legendary” programmer and independent producers have honored him with their CINE Leadership Award.
Ford earned degrees from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas, Austin, and from Duke University.
