Academy member Frida Torresblanco is an award-winning producer based in New York. After studying Film and Literature in Madrid, she went on to produce many prestigious projects, including THE DANCER UPSTAIRS (directed by John Malkovich), THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON (starring Sean Penn) and PAN’S LABYRINTH (directed by Guillermo del Toro and winner of three Oscars at the 79th Academy Awards). In 2007, The Hollywood Reporter named her one of the 50 most powerful Latinos in Hollywood; she was number 13 in the same magazine’s Latino Women Power 25 list.
Torresblanco launched, in partnership with Alfonso Cuaron, a film production company, Esperanto and worked there for almost nine years. As Head of Esperanto, Frida produced with Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro PAN’S LABYRINTH, directed by Guillermo del Toro, a production which was graced with three Oscars and another three nominations, as well as three wins and five nominations at the BAFTAs, a nomination for the Palm d’Or, and a Golden Globe.
Founded in 2010 together with Giovanna Randall, Eric Laufer and Torresblanco Braven Films produced both DISOBEDIENCE (Sebastian Lelio) and MAGIC MAGIC (Sebastian Silva). Braven focuses on independently produced cinema with universal appeal.
DISOBEDIENCE is an adaptation from the original novel of Naomi Alderman, written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and Sebastian Lelio who directed it (GLORIA, UNA MUJER FANTSTICA), starring Rachel Weisz (THE FAVOURITE), Rachel McAdams (SPOTLIGHT) and Alessandro Nivola (AMERICAN HUSTLE) and produced with Film4, Film Nation and Ed Guiney (ROOM).
In development is a slate of films including SATAN IS REAL starring Ethan Hawke (TRAINING DAY) and Alessandro Nivola, STOLEN GIRL to be directed by James Kent (THE AFTERMATH), CROOKED HEART in partnership with Rachel Weisz and VISCERAL, a thriller directed by Frederic Jardin (SLEEPLESS NIGHT, SPIRAL), co-produced with Marco Cherqui (A PROPHET) As well as a new film from John Curran (CHAPPAQUIDDICK). The slate includes movies, TV series, and documentaries.
Recently Viacom International Studios (VIS) announced an exclusive agreement with renowned, multi-award-winning Spanish-American film and TV producer Frida Torresblanco and Braven Films, for the development and production of international content in beneficial first-look deal.
As a part of that first look deal two exciting TV series are underway; BALENCIAGA with James Kent (“Testament of Youth”) and ARTEMISIA, both of which will bring together talented teams to tell stories of historical figures with incredible stories.
Frida has participated in more than 50 panels at organizations throughout the industry in London, Madrid, Canada and the United States. Her movies have played at Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, TIFF, and Sundance.
